We are in a difficult phase of our post-independence history. In economic terms, we had hardly emerged from a brief period of economic growth when recession overtook us ad with vengeance. The rupee is collapsing against the dollar.

The Prime Minister, himself an economist, attributes economic recession to world economic scenario, and particularly, to the somersaults of US economy. He is disposed to link it to the economics of oil.   Continue Reading…

An Historic Press Statement: Analysis

On August 10, a rare document, in the shape of press release on India-Pakistan Relations, has come from the members of an India-based organization called India Strategic Community.

Forty-one high ranking distinguished civil and military officials, who had held top  positions  when in  service, including Chief and Deputy Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force, Secretaries to Government, Intelligence Bureau, RAW and Police bosses, Ambassadors, Foreign Secretaries, Strategic Experts and media czars have signed the press release. Many among them, by dint of high positions they held, have been privy to highly guarded and most sensitive secrets of the State. Bizarre jailbreak of DI Khan

I am disposed to believe that our policy planners, intelligence sources, and anti-terrorism mandarins will have taken due cognizance of the nature and possible reach-out of 29th July bizarre jailbreak in Dera Ismail Khan to the south of Southern Waziristan in Pakistan.

A major and highly successful act of terrorism on a land, which, by all evidence at our disposal, is the cradle of contemporary terrorism, should not go unnoticed by our policy planners because our country is very much on the radar of these terrorist groups.   Continue Reading…
