After evading taxes on money earned through right or wrong means, many “patriotic” Indians have been stashing their wealth in foreign banks, especially in Switzerland. Feeling that their money would be unearthed and accounted for by IT sleuths at home, these “patriots” chose to take it away and deposit in the safe haven of Swiss banks just because of that country’s status of neutrality and banking rules that debar bank authorities from disclosing information about deposits to the third party.   Continue Reading…

Operation in Waziristan

Belatedly Pakistan army has launched “comprehensive military operation” in North Waziristan. Justifying the action, army spokesman accused TTP leadership of stalling secret talks held in a Gulf State for resolving the logjam. Two conditions of TTP were not acceptable to Islamabad; namely unconditional release of all TTP prisoners and declaring Pakistan Islamic theocratic state where sharia law would prevail.   Continue Reading…

Revitalizing security strategy

It is premature to assess Modi government’s performance. We will do that at its proper time. Right now, much of what PM Modi would want to do can be cobbled together from his election speeches. How many commitments will materialise at the end of the day depends on the response of the people from time to time.

We can, at least, frame some contours of his security concerns, a subject of considerable priority with his administration. Pakistan-based Theo-fascist organizations, planning for Islamic Caliphate strictly run by sharia law, are casting their shadow on vulnerable sections in India. During Congress regime this was patently projected as home grown discontent springing from so-called discrimination against the Indian minority community.   Continue Reading…
